I was following my usual route home when suddenly I imagined my familiar surroundings as they would appear to a stranger--foreign and unknown. The narrator has a similar experience, albeit for different reasons, I suspect.

The predominant use of suspended chords provides a lack of resolution, much like a Road to Nowhere.
